Same-Day Dental Implants

Same-Day Dental Implants: What Teeth in a Day Really Means, Who Qualifies and What It Costs

“Teeth in a day” sounds almost too good to be true, and understandably, that’s the first reaction people have.

Walk in with failing teeth, walk out with a fixed new smile, all in one visit. It is a real procedure, but the phrase hides a fair bit of nuance that’s worth understanding before you get your hopes up or rule yourself out.

We’re Hale Dental and Implant Clinic, and same-day implants, often delivered through the All-on-4 technique, are one of our main areas of focus under Dr Richard Brookshaw. So let’s get into what actually happens, and more importantly, whether you’d actually qualify.

What “same-day” actually refers to

The “day” in question covers implant placement and the fitting of a fixed temporary bridge, not your entire treatment from start to finish. You’ll leave that appointment with a full set of fixed teeth rather than a gap or a removable option, which is the genuinely life-changing part for most patients. But your permanent, final bridge comes later, around six months down the line, once the implants have had time to fuse properly with your jawbone.

So it’s more accurate to think of it as “fixed teeth in a day, final teeth a few months later,” even though that’s obviously less catchy as a phrase.

How the procedure actually works

If any remaining failing teeth need removing, that happens first, in the same appointment. Implants, four per arch with the outer two angled for extra stability, are then placed into the jawbone. A temporary bridge, custom-made in advance based on your scans, is fitted directly onto those implants before you leave.

That temporary bridge functions like real teeth, you can eat, speak and smile normally with it, while underneath, the implants gradually fuse with the bone over the following months. Once that fusion is complete, the temporary bridge is swapped for your permanent one, made from more durable material and fine-tuned to fit exactly. Success rates for this kind of treatment are reported at 95 to 100 percent.

Who actually qualifies for this

This is where a lot of the confusion sits, because not everyone with missing or failing teeth is automatically a candidate.

Bone density matters most. There needs to be enough bone to support implants securely from day one, since the whole point is fitting a functional bridge immediately rather than waiting. A 3D CBCT scan during consultation shows this clearly, and it’s not something anyone can assess just by looking in your mouth. Where bone isn’t available in sufficient volume, grafting is an option, though the angled All-on-4 approach itself often reduces or removes the need for it.

General health plays a role too. Conditions that affect healing, uncontrolled diabetes or certain autoimmune conditions for example, don’t automatically rule someone out, but they do mean your case needs closer assessment. Smoking is another factor worth being upfront about, since it can affect how well implants fuse with bone.

What it costs

Standard All-on-4 same-day implant treatment at Hale Dental starts from £20,995 per jaw for a full ceramic bridge, with the exact figure depending on whether any bone grafting is needed and the materials used for your final bridge. We offer 0% finance over 12 months, or up to 5 years at 12.9% APR, to spread that cost, which makes a real difference for most patients weighing this up.

What it’s not a substitute for

It’s worth being clear that same-day dental implants aren’t the same thing as a single tooth implant, which is a much smaller, more contained treatment for one missing tooth, from £3,333, with its own separate timeline and cost. Nor are they the same as implant-retained dentures, a removable option anchored by fewer implants that clips in and out rather than being permanently fixed.

All three are legitimate options depending on what you actually need, and part of a proper consultation is working out which one genuinely fits your situation rather than assuming the most dramatic option is automatically the right one.

The honest caveat

Same-day dental implants are a genuinely well-established technique with a strong track record, but the “day” part shouldn’t overshadow the fact that full healing and your final result take months, not hours. Patients who go in expecting an instant, finished outcome sometimes feel disappointed by the temporary bridge stage, even though it’s a completely normal and necessary part of the process.

Finding out if you qualify

The only real way to know is a proper consultation with a 3D scan, which tells us definitively whether you’re a same-day candidate or whether a staged approach would serve you better. Book a consultation with us in Hale (£195) and we’ll give you a clear, honest answer, not a sales pitch toward the most expensive option.

Frequently asked questions

Will I really leave with fixed teeth on the same day?

Yes, a fixed temporary bridge is fitted the same day as implant placement. Your final, permanent bridge follows around six months later once healing is complete.

Will I definitely need a bone graft first?

Not necessarily. The angled All-on-4 approach is designed to reduce the need for grafting. A 3D CBCT scan at consultation shows exactly what your case needs.

What does same-day implant treatment cost?

Standard All-on-4 starts from £20,995 per jaw at Hale Dental, with 0% finance available over 12 months.
